Love of the Sidhe

I tell a sweet tale of a lady they say
Who fled to the forests at night
She lived in cave where she dwelt through the day
With a father who treated her right

She'd sing a sweet song as she walked along
To the circles, in the pale moons light
Come day she'd be gone from the Sidhe lord she'd longed
To be held by all through the night

They're touch was forbidden at yet she was smitten
And whispered her love in his ears
But when the sun's in the sky he'd bid her goodbye
And to her father she'd dash with her tears

Her heart it was his and yet he won't give
The vows she pleas for at night
For the night is her gift but her life he'll outlive
And to wed her just wasn't right

As the years swept away, by night they would play
Until his love she learned not to doubt
And back to her cave she'd go for the day
Small hours to live him with out

She quickly did age and yet he stayed the same
Her lover so faithful and true
He felt her he'd shamed, but she never laid blame
For their not wedding has lovers oft' do

He knew her lone fate, when the night it grew late
And to his arms she no longer ran
He went to her cave and knelt by his mate
With tears that would not stop once began

Come day he had gone from the mortal he longed
To hold to him for all of his life.
But his vows he gave by her flower strewn grave
Marked simply 'she was my wife'

"You have taken her life! Oh, sweet goddess why?"
He screamed to the heavens above
Came the answer from on high, "you knew she would die,
And the Sidhe just aren't meant to love."
